Dive into the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course in Melbourne and unlock a world of essential first aid expertise. Topics covered include recognising and addressing various emergencies, understanding the basics of wound care, managing burns, fractures, and bites, and understanding the importance of immediate response in life-threatening situations. The Provide First Aid course presents a thorough learning experience, seamlessly combining hands-on face-to-face sessions with an accessible online pre-class module. Recognising the demands of modern life, we offer daily classes to accommodate our participants’ busy schedules with classes available every day, seven days a week. Priced affordably, we ensure that this vital training is within everyone’s reach. No prerequisites are required to join, and upon completion, your certification remains valid for 3 years. Additionally, the course includes the HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, which is valid for 12 months. Join us for a learning experience that’s both informative and geared towards real-world scenarios.

Participants who have completed the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course and have been assessed as competent in all assessments will receive a digital Statement of Attainment in:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Within 24 hours of completing their course.

Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for this course. Participants are however required to have a minimum level of Literacy and Numeracy to be allowed admittance to this course.

Please notify us if you have any medical conditions or special needs that may prevent you completing all practical assessments. This includes performing CPR on the floor on a manikin. It is a requirement that CPR be performed for at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Performance Evidence The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has completed the following tasks in line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures: Followed DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including:
  • Performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • Performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • Responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • Managed the unconscious breathing casualty
  • Followed single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compression
  • Followed the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Responded to at least two simulated first aid scenarios contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting, including:
  • Conducted a visual and verbal assessment of the casualty
  • Demonstrated safe manual handling techniques
  • Post-incident debrief and evaluation
  • Provided an accurate verbal or written report of the incident
Applied first aid procedures for the following:
  • Allergic reaction
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Bleeding control
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Envenomation, using pressure immobilisation
  • Fractures, sprains and strains, using arm slings, roller bandages or other appropriate immobilisation techniques
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Shock
Knowledge Evidence The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of: State/Territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and workplace procedures including:
  • ARC Guidelines relevant to the provision of CPR
  • Safe work practices to minimise risks and potential hazards
  • Infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions
  • Requirements for currency of skill and knowledge
Legal, workplace and community considerations, including:
  • Awareness of potential need for stress-management techniques and available support following an emergency situation
  • Duty of care requirements
  • Respectful behaviour towards a casualty
  • Own skills and limitations
  • Consent
  • Privacy and confidentiality requirements
  • Importance of debriefing
Considerations when providing CPR, including:
  • Airway obstruction due to body position
  • Appropriate duration and cessation of CPR
  • Appropriate use of an AED
  • Chain of survival
  • Standard precautions
  • How to conduct a visual and verbal assessment of the casualty
Principles and procedures for first aid management of the following scenarios:
  • Abdominal injuries
  • Allergic reaction
  • Anaphylaxis

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor. 

Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/pre-course studies.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support certificates will require renewal after 36 months

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate will require renewal after 12 months.

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
