Privacy Policy

Life Saving First Aid is committed to providing quality services to you and this policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your Personal Information.

We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). These principles govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure, and dispose of your Personal Information. A copy of the APPs may be obtained from the website of The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au

1. Why we collect Personal Information

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), we collect your personal information so we can process and manage your enrolment in a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course with us.

The primary purposes for collection include:

  • Delivering VET courses to you.

  • Complying with our legal obligations as an RTO under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (NVETR Act).

  • Providing information to clients and marketing.

We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure. You may unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by contacting us in writing.

2. What is Personal Information?

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples we collect include names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and Unique Student Identifiers (USI).

This information is obtained in many ways including interviews, correspondence, by telephone, by email, via our website www.lifesavingfirstaid.com.au, and from third parties. Failure to provide your personal information may mean that it is not possible for you to enrol with Life Saving First Aid.

3. Sensitive Information

Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information about an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, criminal record, or health information.

Sensitive information will be used by us only:

  • For the primary purpose for which it was obtained (e.g., government reporting or ensuring student safety).

  • For a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose.

  • With your consent; or where required or authorised by law.

4. Disclosure of Personal Information (VET Data)

We are required by law (under the NVETR Act) to disclose the personal information we collect about you to the National VET Data Collection kept by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER). The NCVER is responsible for research and statistics about the Australian VET sector. We are also authorised to disclose your information to relevant State or Territory training authorities.

How the NCVER handles your data: The NCVER may use and disclose your information to:
  • Populate authenticated VET transcripts.

  • Facilitate statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkage.

  • Disclose data to the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), Commonwealth authorities, and VET regulators.

NCVER does not intend to disclose your personal information to any overseas recipients. For more information, see www.ncver.edu.au/privacy.

5. Surveys

You may receive a student survey which may be run by a government department or an NCVER employee, agent, or third-party contractor. You may opt out of the survey at the time of being contacted.

6. Security and Retention of Personal Information

Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse, loss, and unauthorized access.

When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify it. However, as an RTO, most Personal Information is stored in client files which we are required to keep for a minimum of 30 years (or as otherwise specified by current VET regulatory requirements for record-keeping).

7. Access to and Quality of your Personal Information

You may access the Personal Information we hold about you to update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. We will take reasonable steps to ensure your information is accurate and complete.
